The connection between sports and fashion is not a new one. Since the days of Fred Perry, some 60 years ago, the world of sport has drawn interest from fashion brands, and vice versa. Ignacio Figueras
Introduced to the sport of polo at the age of 8, Ignacio ‘Nacho’ Figueras in his native Argentina. As one of the most successful polo players in the world, Nacho has played the sport all over the world. The athlete was introduced to photographer Bruce Weber, who has used Figueras in campaigns for Ralph Lauren.
Lewis Hamilton
Taking time out from Formula 1 racing, Lewis Hamilton is no stranger to the fashion stage. The F1 driver has been photographed for American GQ, sporting hot fashions from Ralph Lauren and GAP. Most recently, Hamilton has been photographed with teammate Jensen Button to launch a range of McLaren fashion accessories for men.
Freddie Ljungberg
Swedish football star Karl Frederik ‘Freddie’ Ljungberg has had a string of successes with both Sweden and Arsenal. However, when it comes to fashion, it’s his lucrative deal with Calvin Klein that has led to the footballer becoming one Europe’s most famous male models. In fact, when Calvin Klein Ljungberg’s for a campaign, sales of the brand’s underwear increased by 25%.
David Beckham
You can’t mention sportsmen and fashion without mentioning David Beckham. From iconic hairstyles to glossy magazine and billboard shoots, David Beckham has carved out a credible career in fashion as well as football. There’s no denying that his fashionista wife Victoria has had an influence in his appearance, but he’s certainly become a fashion celebrity in his own right. This year, David Beckham launched his own line of underwear, termed ‘bodywear’, for H&M.
