Fashion-conscious gents across London will be pleased to hear that Selfridges on Oxford Street is now home to one of the largest selections of mens shoes in retail history, and the store is making giant strides into the world of mens fashion as a whole.

Best Foot Forward

London’s Oxford Street is famed as one of the world’s biggest and best shopping destinations, boasting some of the UK’s finest boutiques and largest department stores. One of the largest and best-known of these stores is Selfridges, the luxury department store that occupies an entire block as is known as the country’s second-largest shop. The new mens footwear department on the first floor of Selfridges has just opened, making headlines as the largest of its kind in the world. With around 72 000 different pairs of mens shoes from over 250 well-known brands available, it’s safe to say even the biggest competitors would be hard pressed to top this latest development from Selfridges.

The price range is just as extensive as the shoe selection available, ranging from £25 to an impressive £10 000. There are shoes available to suit any occasion, be it formal or casual – and there’s even a dedicated “driving shoes” selection for men, with a variety of Carshoe, Prada and Gucci designs to name a few. As if that’s not enough, for those particularly discerning clients who aren’t satisfied by the extensive selection of mens shoes available at Selfridges, the new department also boasts a made-to-order shoe salon for bespoke footwear creations.

David Walker-Smith, director of menswear at Selfridges, told press; “Our aim is to truly amaze our customers… offering the very best international brands within bespoke retail environments”.

Menswear Masterplan

This new space is a part of the “Menswear Masterplan” initiative at Selfridges, as the department store chain looks to appeal to a wider audience by engaging with more male consumers. The department is based on the concept of the store’s Shoe Galleries – extensive collections of womens footwear, first launched in 2010.

Brands in the new mens shoe department include some of the fashion world’s biggest names such as Burberry, Lanvin and Versace – and next year Selfridges will welcome the first-ever collection of red-soled mens shoes from French footwear genius Christian Louboutin himself.

This latest development comes hot on the heels of the news that Selfridges, after 103 years in business, has just broken the £1 billion sales barrier. With a stronger focus on menswear and mens designer shoes, the store is set to grow in leaps and bounds in the coming months.

Nicky Warner is a passionate fashion blogger who will definitely be visiting Selfridges this Christmas to pick up some quality shoes and wool trousers for the man in her life.
