Quitting Smoking

Quitting smoking is for many people the most difficult thing they will ever have to do. Even the psychological barrier of deciding, thinking, and saying out loud that you intend to quit smoking can be difficult for many people. There are many resources available to assist you in quitting smoking, and one of the common ones is books.

We looked at the top five books for both inspiring and assisting you in your quest to quit smoking once and for all.

1. The Easy Way to Stop Smoking – Allen Carr

In fact, any of the numerous books on this topic by Carr is useful, but we found this one to be by far the most inspirational. If you do not already know about Carr, he wrote a series of stop smoking books having quit the habit himself, which once saw him smoking up to a massive 100 cigarettes on a daily basis. That fact alone makes this one of the most credible, believable, and ultimately successful publications when it comes to helping smokers to quit. Much of the advice is based on Carr’s personal experiences, and how you can free yourself from the physical and psychological issues attached to quitting smoking.

2. You Can Stop Smoking – Jaquelyn Rogers

Another book from someone who was once a heavy smoker, Rogers once reportedly smoked 40 a day for over 20 years. More impressively, she claims to have quit within a four week period, and it is that timeline that forms the central topic of her bestselling book.

3. The Smoke Stops Here – Jim Lacey

This is the most unique book on our list, and will have varying degrees of success depending on the attitude of smokers towards giving up. Given the poignancy and potential personal relevance of many aspects of the book, this could also be a powerful call to action for those who are struggling to give up. An eclectic mix of stories as well as quit smoking facts, those with a get up and go, positive attitude will likely benefit most from this excellent book.

4. Stop Smoking in One Hour – Susan Hepburn

Although quitting smoking in one hour may well be unrealistic, at least the positive sentiment is there. This book also comes with an audio CD packed full of positive self-talk, to get you into a strong frame of mind and ready to tackle your smoking habit head on.

5. How to Stop Smoking and Stay Stopped For Good – Gillian Riley

What makes this book stand out is that, as well as giving excellent advice on quitting smoking, it also gives guidance on making lifestyle changes, and what you can do to stop the dreaded putting on of weight once you have quit smoking forever.
