Summer is here which means most people will be on their way to some fun in the sun. There’s a good chance that you’ll find yourself near a large body of water during your vacation and with some hard work and dedication you can lose some extra weight and avoid embarrassment. The amount of weight that you desire to lose will play a huge part in determining how long it will take to lose it. However, assuming that you are just looking to lose a few quick pounds, you should be able to take the weight off within two weeks or so. Here are three simple ideas to help jumpstart your exercise program for the summer break:

  1. Bring Lunch to Work- If you’re someone who likes to eat out at lunch you can make a big difference in losing weight by simply bringing your lunch to work. If you make sure to pack something healthy and avoid portions that are too large, you can cutback your total daily caloric intake. Reducing the number of calories you eat everyday means that you have fewer calories to burn off when it comes time to work out. Remember that in order to lose weight you will have to have a calorie deficit, or in other words, you’ll need to burn more calories than you take in.
  2. Team Exercise Group- One of the best ways to get fast motivation and to stay on track with your weight loss program is to work together with your friends. You can join a gym, start walking around the neighborhood, or whatever form of exercise that you prefer. A lot of gyms offer fitness groups and boot-camp style classes where you can really supercharge your workout and burn off the extra weight fast. Keep in mind that most boot-camp courses aren’t for the faint of heart, and generally you need to be in pretty decent shape before you sign up.
  3. Swimming- Sure the reason you want to lose weight if probably so that you can look better in a swimsuit, but if you hit the swimming pool you can really speed up your weight loss. Swimming is not only very refreshing but it is fantastic exercise for the entire body. Start small with a few simple laps and as you get better conditioned you can increase your workout intensity.

No matter how much weight you feel like you need to lose to feel comfortable this summer, remember that every little bit of exercise that you do counts. You may feel discouraged as you begin your new diet and exercise because the weight may not come off as quickly as you’d like. If you stick with it, however, you can rest assured that your hard work will pay off.
