Scarves: Every Woman’s Favorite Accessory

  • Sumo

Scarves are like shoes to us women: you can never own too many; we like to own different ones for different occasions and to match different outfits and seasons; and they always fit, even if we’ve had a few too many sticky buns recently.

There are floaty, silky scarves that we can wear in spring and summer to co-ordinate with our outfits or to add a little colour (or disguise an inappropriately low neckline at work); there are chunky knitted scarves to keep us warm and cosy in autumn and winter.

If you need to wrap up warm this winter (particularly if you have to commute on public transport, work outdoors or have to wait in a freezing cold playground for your children to finish school), you could opt for a snood (a tube of fabric that slides over your head to be used as a scarf and that can be pulled back up over the back of your head to act as a scarf-hat-combo).  Or you could add a touch of glamour and style to a plain winter coat by buying a faux-fur collar as an alternative to a standard scarf.

If it’s a scarf you’re after, you’ll be spoilt for choice this year with plenty of beautiful, art-inspired printed scarves to choose from and feminine floral patterns too.   You can buy a traditional square scarf to tie however you want and to achieve the thickness you need by folding it over as many or as few times as required, or you can buy a skinny scarf to wrap around your neck or sling over your shoulders and down your back.

If you’re buying a patterned scarf, make sure you wear it with a plain coat so that your patterns don’t clash or compete – or your lovely patterned scarf can turn from girlish to garish.  If your coat has a strong pattern, opt for a more subtle, muted scarf.

If you love your scarf too much to take it off when you get to work, turn it into a belt to accessorise your outfit.  Maxi dresses are still going to be on trend this winter, and a great way to make a maxi dress more fitted and less billowy is to tie a belt around them – your scarf will do the trick nicely.

So go ahead and enjoy shopping for some nice, feminine women’s scarves to make the most of your winter outfits and to keep warm this season.  Happy shopping!
