If there’s one shoe trend that has really taken off over the past couple of months it’s got to be the wedge heel trainer. In case you haven’t seen them, it all began last summer when stars such as Miranda Kerr, Kate Bosworth and Beyonce stepped out sporting the wedge heel trainers created by high fashion designer Isabel Marant.
Of course, these are very expensive, but the trend has drifted down to the high street and now you can get your hands on much cheaper pairs that still look just as cool. But how do you style them? They’ve got a bit of height, so they’re kind of like heels, but ultimately they look like trainers.
Here are a few ideas to get you started…
Miranda Kerr wore her wedge heel trainers with a pair of leather trousers and they looked fantastic. Leather trousers don’t just have to be for nights out and they can look amazing during the day if you dress them down a bit. Copy Miranda and team yours with a denim shirt and a casual knitted jumper for a laid back look. I think this look works best if you have a colourful pair of trainers, rather than the black ones you can get.
When Kate Bosworth wore her wedge heel trainers she also went for a grey kitted jumper. However, hers was much finer and she teamed it with a floaty mint green maxi skirt. This complemented the sportiness of the trainers perfectly and created a cool, contrasting look.
If floaty maxi skirts and trainers seem a bit too Lily Allen for you, go for a maxi made from the grey marl jersey fabric that is so popular at the moment. Add a jumper, leather jacket and some chunky silver rings and you’re ready to go.
Skinny jeans are probably the easiest way to wear these shoes. Jeans always look great and grey, blue, black, khaki… pretty much any colour you want will look cool with a pair of wedge trainers. This is a great look for the weekend because you’re wearing trainers, but are getting the height of having a heel on. It’s pretty hard to go wrong with this look but for me, it’s important to keep it casual. Wedge trainers, jeans and a sparkly top for a night out won’t really work.
If you like to show off your legs then denim shorts and wedge heel trainers are perfect for you. Because the shoes are designed to look casual, you don’t have to worry about feeling too dressed up as you would if you were walking around in a pair of high heels and tiny Daisy Dukes. Instead, if you wear them with a cool T-shirt or even a floaty blouse, you’ve created a far more relaxed look that still lets you show off your tan.
So, as you can see wedge trainers can be a very versatile addition to your wardrobe and look great with loads of different things, so why not give them a go?
