Autumn seems to have snuck up on us from out of the blue but with the sadness of losing whatever hope we had of seeing any glimmer of sun, comes the silver lining that we can finally wear our favourite clothes again!  Admit it, you secretly wished that autumn would hurry up and get here so you can wear your comfy cardigans again.

From boyfriend to lace, gone are the days where you had to be a granny to wear a cardigan.  Chunky knit being the favourite amongst casual-chic fashionistas, teamed (of course) with leggings and over the knee, high-heeled boots for immediate, no-frills glamour.  This fall, team a three-quarter sleeve cardigan like DKNY’s striped cotton-blend with skinny blue or black faded jeans for a classic yet sexy combo (you didn’t think you could get “sexy” and “cardigan” in the same sentence, did you?) and you could even get away with wearing a wrap cardigan with opaque tights and…. nothing else (let’s keep it below the derrière though, ladies).

Dorothy Perkins’ grey embellished cardigan can double as a cute dress and is far more glamorous than your average cardie with its bead detailing at the shoulders.  The must for autumn, every gal should own a cardigan to suit every outfit.  Besides the practicality and its main purpose (keeping one warm in nippy weather), a cardigan can add glamour and style in an instant to any ensemble.  Ideally, every wardrobe should have the standard essential cardigan in at least the basic colours (black, navy, white, beige and brown or red).

Most high street stores like Bershka, Mango and Zara have the standard cardigans for around a tenner in every colour imaginable and they are well worth the investment as you will wear them to death (theirs) but it also might be worth in investing in a statement cardigan like M Missoni’s crochet knit which is sure to get you noticed.

Celebs like Kim Kardashian and Jennifer Lopez and even Angelina Jolie and Naomi Watts are all fans of the classic cardigan whilst Kristen Stewart and Reese Witherspoon prefer the boyfriend cut and chunky knit.  Kate Beckinsale seems to have a cardigan for all occasions but favours long cardigans with leggings paired with either flat or high boots and this is an easy style that you can wear well into winter and even early spring.

‘Comfy’ is definitely in style this year and you can’t get much comfier than River Island’s fluffy cardigan which comes in grey and beige and with the £30 price tag, you might as well get both.  The high street is full of them this fall; whatever your penchant, there is a cardigan to suit you.
